I have been thinking about a new kayak for a while, the Elaho is not the right boat for me, and I was planning on staying with plastic, and most likely going with the a longer Tsunami the 160 165 or 170. Well I was at the Appomattox River Company, getting the proper pads for the Thule Rack, no go on making the Yakima pads fit. I took a look at a couple of the kayaks there, and was shown the P&H Capella 173, and after sitting in it I was pretty much sold. I went home did my research, and could find nothing on the negative side of this boat, and the price quoted was good, so I decided this was the way to go.
I picked up the boat today, and took it out for a quick run on Ashville Bridge Creek. I only had the time to do a little over 2 miles, but I did get a chance to have a little fun with it... The Capella handles nicely, and is a little bit tender, but overall first impression is totally positive. I did have a small problem, I dumped it getting out at the launch, it was kind of stupid, because I slipped on an empty water bottle I left in the cockpit.
